A Post-Quantum Encryption Algorithm Just Got Cracked โ And That's a Big Deal
Ars Technica - All contentยทFriday, 31 July 2026

A cryptographic attack called Mythos has broken HAWK, a candidate algorithm in the third round of the post-quantum cryptography (PQC) standardization process. HAWK had survived years of testing without anyone finding a fatal flaw, until now. The attack puts HAWK out of contention as a future encryption standard.
Why It Matters
Governments and banks worldwide โ including in India โ are planning to upgrade encryption systems to post-quantum standards; a leading candidate failing this late in testing means those plans may need to change.
