US Government Warns Russia's State Hackers Are Actively Targeting Home Routers
Ars Technica - All contentยทWednesday, 15 July 2026

The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has issued a warning that Russian state-backed hackers are targeting home and small-office routers to build networks of compromised devices called 'residential proxies.' These proxies help attackers hide their identity and launch further attacks. CISA is urging all router users to be on high alert.
Why It Matters
This isn't just an American problem โ the same tactics work anywhere in the world. Indian home users and small businesses with poorly secured routers could be quietly recruited into these attack networks without ever knowing it.
