Philippines Earthquake Raises Seabed by 2 Metres, Killing Coral and Displacing Coastlines

A 7.8-magnitude earthquake off southern Mindanao island in the Philippines killed at least 61 people and raised the seabed by as much as 2 metres, the country's environment department said. At least 40 people are still missing. The 'coastal uplift' exposed coral reefs and caused significant marine damage, with residents reporting shorelines extended by up to 200 metres.
