Ethanol Blending Saved Consumers ₹30 Per Litre as Global Crude Hit $135 a Barrel
Times of India·Saturday, 1 August 2026
The government says ethanol blending in petrol saved consumers nearly ₹30 per litre as global crude oil prices climbed to $135 a barrel. E20 petrol is currently priced at ₹102 per litre in Delhi. The government also rejected allegations that foodgrain was being diverted to produce ethanol.
Why It Matters
Petrol prices directly affect the daily cost of living for anyone who commutes, runs a business, or buys goods transported by road — this explains why pump prices have not risen as sharply as global oil.
