Armed Gangs Are Holding Indigenous Amazon Communities 'Hostage', Leaders Warn

Indigenous leaders on the Brazilian-Peruvian border say organised crime groups have entered their communities, armed with semi-automatic weapons, destroying rainforest and trafficking drugs. Earlier this month, masked gunmen entered homes in the Apiwtxa village in the Kampa do Rio Amônia Indigenous territory. A delegation has been sent to Brazil's capital Brasília to raise the alarm.
