US Slaps New Tariffs on 60 Countries โ India Gets Slightly Lower 10% Rate
The HinduยทFriday, 24 July 2026
The US Trade Representative announced new tariffs on 60 countries under Section 301 of the Trade Act, citing forced labour concerns. The tariffs range up to 12.5% and took effect on July 24. India was given a lower rate of 10%, a day before the expiry of earlier additional levies.
Why It Matters
These tariffs affect Indian exporters selling goods to the US โ from textiles to tech products. Higher costs could mean fewer orders, job losses, or price changes for Indian businesses.
