Apple's iOS 27 Could Lock You Out of Your iPhone If You Miss a Payment
The VergeยทThursday, 23 July 2026

Code found in an iOS 27 beta would let Apple put a financed iPhone into 'Restricted Mode' if it detects missed payments, according to a report by 9to5Mac. This follows a Bloomberg report claiming Apple is preparing to launch a new 'Apple Upgrade' financing program for leasing devices. iPhones in Restricted Mode would have limited functionality.
Why It Matters
India is one of Apple's fastest-growing markets, and iPhone financing is increasingly popular here. If Apple rolls this out globally, Indian buyers on EMI plans could find their phones locked mid-cycle.
