Congo Ebola Outbreak Kills Over 930 — Why India Should Be Watching

Congo's health ministry confirmed at least 930 deaths out of 2,344 cases as of Saturday, with 37 new deaths recorded in a single 24-hour period — one of the highest daily tolls yet. Seven American aid workers who were in Congo have now quarantined at a controversial isolation facility in Kenya after US travel restrictions were introduced. Uganda, which discharged its last Ebola patient, is lobbying countries to lift travel restrictions and has begun a 42-day countdown to declaring the outbreak over.

Why It Matters

A fast-moving outbreak with cross-border spread and international travel disruptions is the kind of health emergency that Indian authorities and travellers need to monitor closely.
