Linus Torvalds Tells AI-Coding Critics to 'Fork Linux or Walk Away'
Ars TechnicaยทFriday, 17 July 2026

Linux creator Linus Torvalds has come out strongly in favour of allowing AI tools to be used in Linux development. He said he will 'very loudly ignore' people calling for a ban on AI-assisted coding contributions. The statement settles, at least for now, an ongoing debate in the open-source community.
Why It Matters
Linux powers a huge portion of India's tech infrastructure, from cloud servers to Android phones, so decisions about how its code is written affect millions of Indian developers and users.
