India's First Hydrogen Train Rolls Out โ€” And It's the Longest in the World

India has joined a select group of nations running hydrogen-powered trains with its first service on the Jind-Sonipat route. The 10-coach train is the longest hydrogen train globally and uses indigenous technology with a fuel-cell propulsion system. The Jind-Sonipat route was chosen for its low traffic and available infrastructure, with plans to eventually extend the service to New Delhi.

Why It Matters

This is a landmark moment for Indian Railways and clean energy in India โ€” hydrogen trains produce zero direct emissions, which matters for air quality and climate goals.
