Sudan's El Obeid Is Being Bombed Daily. Aid Workers Say It's the Worst Yet.
World news | The GuardianยทThursday, 9 July 2026

Aid workers in the Sudanese city of El Obeid say drone strikes this past weekend were the most violent so far in the war between Sudan's armed forces and the paramilitary RSF. Drones hit schools and fuel stations, killing more than 20 people including students. One aid volunteer said seeing 40 to 45 drones at a time has become the norm.
Why It Matters
The scale of civilian suffering in Sudan is growing rapidly, and the targeting of schools and fuel infrastructure signals a deliberate strategy to break down civilian life.
