E20 Fuel Can Damage Rubber Parts in Older Cars, Says Suppressed ARAI Report

An unpublished report by ARAI — India's top auto testing body — found that using E20 fuel (petrol blended with 20% ethanol) in cars built for E10 fuel can deteriorate rubber components. One BS-VI turbocharged engine showed problems after durability testing. Fuel consumption also rose by 2 to 6 percent on E20.

Millions of Indians drive cars built for E10 fuel, and if E20 becomes the standard at pumps, their vehicles could face damage they weren't warned about.
