US DOJ Drops Adani Case, Says It 'Should Never Have Been Brought'
NDTVยทSunday, 5 July 2026

The US Department of Justice has dropped charges against Gautam Adani, saying the case 'should have been dropped a year ago' and that 'not a single penny was lost.' The DOJ described the indictment as apparently intended as a 'name and shame' exercise. The department also stressed that prosecutorial power rests with the Executive, not the Judiciary.
Why It Matters
The Adani Group is one of India's largest conglomerates with stakes in ports, airports, energy, and more โ so legal clouds over it affect Indian markets, infrastructure projects, and investor confidence.
