Marburg Virus Confirmed in Uganda as Ebola Also Spreads โ India Should Be Watching
Ars TechnicaยทFriday, 3 July 2026

Africa CDC has confirmed a case of Marburg virus in Uganda, a deadly hemorrhagic fever with no approved vaccine. This is happening at the same time as an active Ebola outbreak in the region. Early reports suggest there may be a second Marburg case, but spread is believed to be localised so far.
Why It Matters
India has significant travel and trade links with East Africa. The simultaneous outbreak of two dangerous viruses in the region is exactly the kind of situation that Indian health authorities monitor for imported cases.
