China Emerges as the Big Winner From the Strait of Hormuz Crisis โ and India Is Watching
The GuardianยทFriday, 3 July 2026

A report by geopolitical consulting firm Asia Group says China is the sole winner in Asia from the Strait of Hormuz crisis, which caused a global commodities shock. Beijing's stockpiles and its renewables industry helped it weather the energy disruption, and it is now gaining further from the global push toward solar energy and electric vehicles. The report was published on Tuesday.
Why It Matters
India depends heavily on Middle East oil and was exposed to the same energy shock, making China's ability to emerge stronger a direct competitive concern for Indian policymakers and businesses.
