The Finance Ministry has approved a ₹1.25 lakh crore outlay for India Semiconductor Mission 2.0, moving the country a step closer to launching the programme. This is a major push to build a domestic semiconductor industry in India. The original India Semiconductor Mission laid the groundwork; this is the next, bigger phase.

Semiconductors are the brains inside every phone, car, and appliance you use. If India can make them at home, it reduces dependence on foreign suppliers and could create thousands of high-skill jobs.
