A Single Fake Error Message Was Enough to Hijack an AI Coding Agent

Security firm Tenet Security disclosed that in controlled testing, a single crafted fake error report sent through a public Sentry credential was enough to hijack Claude Code โ€” making the AI agent run an attacker's code with the developer's full system privileges. No alerts fired from EDR, WAF, IAM, or firewall systems. The researchers found that Datadog, PagerDuty, and Jira have the same exposure.

Why It Matters

As companies worldwide โ€” including Indian tech firms โ€” adopt AI coding agents to write and deploy software, this vulnerability shows the tools can be weaponised through everyday developer infrastructure.
