Shopify Built an AI Setup That Automatically Switches Models When One Goes Down
VentureBeatยทThursday, 25 June 2026

Shopify created an internal LLM proxy that gives every engineer access to multiple AI providers at once, with automatic failover if any model becomes unavailable or changes. When one AI model was shut down, Shopify's engineers were automatically moved to alternatives without any disruption. The system is designed so Shopify's operations don't depend on any single AI provider surviving.
Why It Matters
As more companies build products on top of AI models, the risk of those models disappearing or changing is real โ Shopify's approach shows one way to protect against that.
