Global Reparations Framework Adopted at Landmark Ghana Conference
The GuardianยทMonday, 22 June 2026

A 19-point global framework for reparatory justice was adopted at a conference in Accra, Ghana. African and Caribbean leaders at the conference demanded formal apologies from countries that benefited from the transatlantic slave trade. Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley also announced a new manifesto asserting the 'moral, ethical and legal case' for reparations.
Why It Matters
India has long engaged in global debates about historical injustices and colonial-era reparations from Britain. This framework could add momentum to conversations that directly touch India's own reparations discourse with former colonial powers.
