India's Oil Lifeline at Risk: Hormuz Passage Still Choked Despite US-Iran Deal
The HinduยทTuesday, 16 June 2026
Even after the US-Iran preliminary agreement, maritime intelligence outlet Lloyd's List estimates around 600 ships remain stranded west of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump claimed US forces had helped about 200 commercial vessels through the Strait since May. Traffic through the critical chokepoint remains limited.
Why It Matters
India imports a large share of its oil through the Strait of Hormuz. If ships can't move freely, energy costs for Indian businesses and households could rise.
