Global Attacks on Schools Surge 40% โ Over 10,600 Students and Staff Harmed

A new study by the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack (GCPEA) found 8,556 recorded incidents of attacks on schools in 2024 and 2025, a 40% increase. At least 10,600 students and staff were killed, injured, abducted, arrested or otherwise harmed. Attacks were reported across 83 countries, with the highest numbers in Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia and Haiti.
Why It Matters
Education is a universal right, and this scale of violence against schools is a global crisis. It also signals worsening conflict conditions in dozens of countries.
