New York Moves to Fine Companies for Fake Job Listings That Lead Nowhere

New York has passed bill S8877, which would fine employers and third-party platforms for posting job listings that do not include a timeframe for when, or whether, the role will actually be filled. These are known as 'ghost jobs' โ listings that look real but have no intention behind them. Fines would apply to both the companies posting them and the platforms hosting them.

Anyone who has applied for jobs and never heard back may have fallen victim to ghost jobs โ this law could finally hold companies accountable for wasting job seekers' time.
