New York Moves to Fine Companies for Fake Job Postings That Were Never Real
HR DiveยทFriday, 12 June 2026
New York state passed bill S8877, which would fine employers and third-party platforms for posting jobs that do not include a timeframe for if and when the role will actually be filled. These are called 'ghost jobs' โ listings that exist online but have no real hiring behind them. Companies that do not comply would face steep financial penalties.
Why It Matters
Ghost jobs waste job seekers' time and create false hope. This law, if signed, would be one of the first to hold companies legally accountable for misleading job posts.
