NSO's Pegasus Spyware Is Back โ This Time Targeting WhatsApp Again
Ars TechnicaยทTuesday, 9 June 2026
Meta has accused NSO Group of violating a court injunction by launching new spear phishing attacks on WhatsApp. WhatsApp says it disrupted the attempts and is asking a court to hold NSO in contempt. NSO's Pegasus spyware has previously been linked to surveillance of journalists, activists, and politicians in India.
Why It Matters
India has been at the centre of Pegasus spyware controversies before, with allegations of its use against journalists and opposition figures โ so this development is directly relevant to Indian users of WhatsApp.
